7 tips to kick-off the new academic year successfully

The new school year is just around the corner or maybe you’ve already started! New beginnings can be scary and exciting at the same time, that is why Europe Language Café would like to share with you 7 tips to kick-off the new academic year successfully!

1. Plan time and set your goals

Planning your time is underestimated by many people. However it is a very useful way to track your productivity and achievements. You can make yearly, monthly, weekly or daily plans depending on your preferences.

Having a plan can also help to get rid of bad habits such as staying up late, postponing preparation for school and getting distracted by unnecessary things.

Set both short-term and long-term goals. These little steps can help you to motivate yourself, as well as achieve better results!

2. Organise your study environment and get necessary supplies

Having a well organised studying place will help to concentrate and prepare school work. Make sure that your chosen study environment has everything you need, so you would not get distracted if you are in need of something and you need to walk around to find it.

Nevertheless, have your supplies ready before starting the academic year. Normally schools provide you with the list of literature you will be using during the year. Make sure to find the list and get all necessary supplies to be a step ahead.

3. Do not be afraid to ask for help

There are no stupid questions! If you have issues or simply do not understand a topic, just ask your fellow students or your teacher. Teachers will answer your question with pleasure since their goal is to teach you and your classmates will love to help you with the problems you are facing. All you need to do is ask!

4. Make new friends

Having new connections is always a useful thing, especially in University/College when you are a young adult and might have different questions to ask. If you are a shy person, you can always try to join different after school activities that match your interests. Then it is going to be easier to meet people that are like you.

5. Combine both intellectual and physical exercise

Since  you spend most of the time studying, it is important to include physical exercise to your daily life. Some people prefer active sports such as working out, running or dancing. It can also be something relaxing such as walking or yoga. It all depends on your preferences, but having an active lifestyle is necessary to maintain a healthy balance between your mind and body.

6. Try something new

Always try out new things to not get stuck in the routine. Try volunteering, become a tutor for juniors or find a job! There are thousands of options, choose one!

7. Develop anti-stress strategies

Managing stress and bringing your life into balance is a good skill to gain. Every student faces stress due to different reasons: deadlines, loads of work, feeling of not fitting in. Each of us deal with stress in different ways, all you need to do is to figure out what helps you to relax. It might be watching your favourite TV series, going for a walk, meditating, or spending time with friends. Think well what makes you relax after a stressed day and use it to fight stress.
