 Christmas Bucket List: European Travel

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Given so many Christmas traditions have taken root here, it makes sense why Europe is one of the best places to spend Christmas. The Germans are to thank for Christmas trees and St Nick himself was thought to have been born in Turkey. The more you think about it, the more it makes sense why you’d want to spend the festive season in such a festive place!

Sunny Christmas

Having a White Christmas every year can get kind of old right? Why not spend the day sunbathing on the beach with no worries. Amongst many European locations that offers sunny weather during December, the Canary Islands, Menorca and Majorca are all great options if you’re looking to catch a tan. It’s a way of celebrating Christmas that everyone should experience at least once in their life, if not only to tick off the bucket list!

Christmas Lights

Perhaps taking inspiration from the film Deck the Halls, London’s Kew Gardens illuminates 1000s of its trees in the spirit of making the season bright. It’s not just one type of lights either – they have laser shows, light tunnels made up of thousands of LED pea-lights and even a fire pit for marshmallow toasting. All the while you can enjoy a cup of mulled wine or hot chocolate whilst listening to the holly bush sing – there really is something for everyone!

Christmas Market

Europe is home to the best Christmas markets in the world. It would be hard to choose just one given there are so many wonderful options to choose from. If we had to pick though, we would choose those in Germany. The country is where the traditional markets originate and many have been going for over 100 years. The most popular is that of Nuremberg, which is actually one of the most famous and popular in the world. If anything, you have to try the famous Lebkuchen gingerbread, that has been baked there for more than 600 years.

Winter Wonderland

Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland is where so many of your Christmas dreams come to life. Situated in one of London’s biggest parks, there is an endless amount of activities to enjoy; Try riding the Christmascoaster, browsing the Christmas markets, or put on your ice skates! Our favourite activity though, has to be the ski cabins, where you can sing karaoke with your friends and enjoy shotskis. This attraction is just one of these reasons London is a perfect Christmas destination.

Santa’s Workshop

We saved the most festive for last. What could be more Christmassy than spending this time of year in the snow at Santa’s workshop? After meeting the man of the hour, take a ride on his sleigh with his reindeer. Finish the night with spotting the Northern Lights and warming up by the fire with a cup of hot cocoa. Sounds straight out of a movie, doesn’t it?
