Non-scary Halloween Movies

 Non-scary Halloween Movies

Spooky season can be hard for those who are easily frightened.

Everyone wants to watch horror movies and get in the mood for Halloween. Luckily for the more fearful there are plenty of non-scary Halloween movies to get you in the mood!

We’ve created a scary-meter to help guide you on how much creepy you can handle:

πŸŽƒ – This movie gets you in the Halloween mood, but could only scare a baby

πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ – Definitely has some creepy vibes, but won’t leave you with any nightmares

πŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒ – As creepy a movie can get before it becomes a scary movie

Hotel Transylvania (2012)πŸŽƒ

There aren’t really any scary parts to this movie, but the hotel is full of all the typical characters you might see at a Halloween party. The main character of this film is Dracula. Although in this story he’s the good guy. This is definitely your safest bet when it comes to non-scary Halloween movies.

Men in Black (1997) πŸŽƒ

With similar vibes to Ghostbusters, Will Smith is chasing down out of control aliens in this Halloween-appropriate film. It has one or two creepy moments but not anything that’ll make you want to find a pillow to hide behind. There are enough laughs in this movie that will make you forget about any scary moments pretty quickly.

Ghostbusters (1984) πŸŽƒ

Despite all the ghosts and ghouls this film includes, this Halloween movie is great for anyone who can’t stand scary movies. There’s a jump scare here and there, but apart from that its pretty scare-proof. Besides, we watch the good guys kick ghosts’ butt in this movie!

The Little Vampire (2000) πŸŽƒ

A kids film, but a great film nonetheless. Apart from sucking blood from cows, this film is innocent enough that your baby sister could watch it and not get nightmares. Plus, Tony’s so cute it makes up for any creepy vampire scenes.

Corpse Bride (2005) πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ

This one is more creepy than scary. It’s all about a man who gets trapped by a ‘corpse bride’ who wants to marry him. As with any Tim Burton it was basically made for Halloween. There are a few jumpy bits but all in all it’s a great non-scary Halloween spookfest!

Warm Bodies (2013) πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ

This film gets just the right balance between gruesome zombies and charming romance to get our vote as a great non-scary Halloween movie. Unlike most zombie movies, we end up finding the lead zombie adorable… is it weird to have a crush on a zombie?? Either way, if you are more of a romcom type of person, but want to get in the spooky mood, this film is definitely for you.

Hocus Pocus (1993) πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ

This is a cult classic that everyone should watch on Halloween. There’s a great balance between crazy, evil witches and light hearted humour. The scariest scene is probably the witches execution, but apart from that we assure it’s perfect to add to your list of non-scary Halloween movies for a movie member!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001) πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ

10/15 years ago this movie might have been given an extra pumpkin, but as it ages the special effects and makeup has less and less effect on us. Still, we couldn’t say it’s completely lacking in spooky moments – the scene from the forbidden forest is as spooky as we like things. This films is also full of all the witches, wizards and mystical creatures we need in a good Halloween movie.

The Addams Family (1991) πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ

Living in a gothic mansion, and obsessed with all things death and evil, this family oozes all things Halloween. The only daughter in the family, Wednesday Addams is obsessed with torture devices and even tries to kill her brother. And yet, they still come across as somewhat loveable. Plus, who isn’t jealous of Gomez and Morticia’s relationship?

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ

This is a controversial one as we could brand it as a Halloween and a Christmas film.

When Jack Skellington, leaves his very own dark and bleak Halloween Town the day after Halloween, he discovers the joyful festivities in Christmas Town.  From his discovery, Jack decides to turn Halloween Town into Christmas town.

Although this is a stop motion animated movie and the characters are obviously fictional, the movie itself is a dark-style fantasy and it shows the strong contrast between Christmas and Halloween, reminding us about how dark, spooky and mysterious the Halloween culture is! Although an animation-style movie might not be enough to scare you, I am sure that a skeleton in a pin-striped suit doesn’t sound like something you would find in your average Christmas film…

Beetlejuice (1988) πŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒ

The 3rd film on this list from the king of Halloween Tim Burton. As well as having some scary moments, this movie is kinda dark. The story follows a couple that dies in a car crash and get stuck in their giant mansion. Add a family with a deeply depressed daughter and evil spirit all together to make a classic Halloween movie that manages to avoid crossing too far into horror territory.

The Witches (1990) πŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒ

non-scary halloween movies

A Roald Dahl classic, this movie scares us just about as much now as it did when we were kids. The witches’ makeup still creeps out today and that scene with the snake still sends shivers down our spine. For us, it definitely reaches the limit on how scary a kids movie can be, without reaching over into the horror category.
